Pre-Conference Field Trip: Auckland to Gisborne, via Bay of Plenty and the East Cape

Leaving Auckland on the morning of Friday, Feb 9, and driving 3 days across the Bay of Plenty and the North Island’s East Cape. The group will arrive on Sunday evening, in time for the conference opening on the morning of Monday, 12 Feb. Highlights include major river and estuarine systems, and evidence of their long-term interaction with tectonic movement. We will observe some of the major changes in the fluvial systems from the Jan 2023 cyclone events.

Mid-Conference Field Trip:

Field expedition to the Waipaoa River and Wainui Beach.

Post-Conference Field Trip: Gisborne to Wellington

Leaving Gisborne early on Sat 17, driving to the Māhia Peninsula and ending in Wellington. This is an opportunity to observe coastal terraces and shore platform evolution along the Gisborne and Hawkes Bay coastline, with contrasting beaches and landforms in Manawatu and Kapiti coasts. Of particular interest will be the Māhia Peninsula and visits to the gravel beaches of Hawke’s Bay. The trip will conclude in Wellington on Sunday evening (18th).
